Abstract

The European institutions have embarked on an effort to defend habitats and species, specified in the adoption of Directive 79/409, concerning wild birds (current Directive 2009/147, after codification), and the Adoption of Directive 92/43, concerning habitats and species of fauna and flora, which constitute the main, although not unique, object of this book. These two Directives are part of the reinforced concrete core of European Environmental Law. The environmental jurisprudence of the ECJ (today CJEU) brings cause in large part to these two Directives..

This true Biodiversity Law Treaty is structured in five major Chapters: 1) International conventions on biodiversity relevant to the European Union; 2) The environmental competence of the European Union and its application in the case of biodiversity; 3) Directive 2009/147 concerning wild birds; 4) Directive 92/43, concerning the conservation of natural habitats and wild fauna and flora; and 5) conclusions on directives 2009/147 and 92/43.
